Training
Because the fire service requires extensive and ongoing training, all CCVFC members train regularly to maintain and improve their skills associated with firefighting. New members are required to successfully complete our apprentice course before becoming eligible to respond to emergencies.
Sponsored and taught by the CCVFC and other area departments, our apprentice course provides new firefighters with basic knowledge and skills necessary for use on the fire ground. In addition to learning textbook skills, potential firefighters learn the mission and protocols of CCVFC, the location of equipment on the apparatus, and our response areas.
In order to successfully complete the program each prospective member takes a written and practical examination. Following successful completion of the apprentice course, members are encouraged to further their training by taking advantage of additional educational opportunities both in and outside the State of Vermont.
CCVFC conducts a weekly training on Wednesday nights. A variety of topics are covered during training sessions to ensure members both maintain and learn new skills.
